The Apiary Experience Room
Step into a one-of-a-kind experience where nature, agriculture, and relaxation come together. Our Apiary Relaxation Experience Room offers guests the opportunity to unwind in a peaceful setting while enjoying the sights, sounds, aromas, and gentle vibrations of an active honey bee colony—all while remaining safely separated from the bees themselves.
Designed as a quiet retreat, the room is situated above specially housed beehives, allowing guests to experience the natural warmth, calming hum, and subtle vibrations produced by thousands of hardworking honey bees. Many visitors find the rhythmic sounds and gentle energy of the hive to be deeply relaxing and restorative.
Whether you are seeking a peaceful place to relax, a new agritourism experience, or a deeper appreciation for these remarkable pollinators, our Apiary Relaxation Experience offers a unique opportunity to slow down and reconnect with nature. Each session provides time to rest, reflect, and enjoy an authentic farm experience unlike any other in Lancaster County.
Our goal is simple: to create a welcoming space where visitors can experience the fascinating world of honey bees in a safe, comfortable, and memorable way while gaining a greater appreciation for the important role they play in our environment and everyday lives.
But wait!

Won't I get stung?!
Nope! Our bees are safely separated from our visitors while inside the room by two layers of stainless steel screening. This allows the hive air to flow into the room and the sound of the hive to resonate within, while keeping both you and the bees safe. There is also a layer of natural untreated wood between you and the tiny little workers so that you don't necessarily need to be face to face with each other if that's not your thing. If it is though, feel free to quietly peek and say hello! We have to make the disclaimer that there always is the possibility of a malfunction, however these rooms and hive designs have been constructed and used for many years without fail. The bees enter and exit their hives at the outside rear of the building, so their flight paths shouldn't intersect with your travels to and from the room.
The senses...
During your visit, your senses will be immersed in the natural world of the honey bee. You will hear the gentle hum of thousands of bees working within the hives below, feel the subtle vibrations created by the colony, and breathe in the warm, earthy aromas of beeswax, honey, and propolis. Sunlight, natural wood finishes, and the peaceful surroundings create a calming atmosphere designed to help you slow down, relax, and reconnect with nature.
Many guests describe the experience as soothing and restorative, finding that the rhythmic sounds of the hive and the tranquil environment help promote a sense of calm, mindfulness, and relaxation. Time spent in nature has long been associated with reduced stress and improved well-being, and our Apiary Relaxation Experience offers a unique opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday life and simply be present. While individual experiences vary, many visitors leave feeling refreshed, centered, and more connected to the natural world around them.

The Hive Aroma

Guests may also enjoy the unique aroma of the hive, including the scent of beeswax, honey, and propolis—a resinous substance that bees collect from trees and plants to protect and maintain the health of their colony. The hive air naturally passes through the bee environment before entering the relaxation space, creating an immersive connection to the world of the honey bee. There's no scent like it in this world. The scent is warm, sweet, and earthy all at once. Notes of fresh honey mingle with the rich fragrance of beeswax, while subtle hints of wildflowers reflect the nectar and pollen being brought back by foraging bees. Depending on the season, you may also notice the resinous, woodsy scent of propolis, which bees collect from tree buds and plant resins. Bees are one of the worlds tidiest creatures and all these smells are full of "the good stuff" and have been shown to be full of antioxidants and natural antimicrobials.
Your visit
Your visit is designed to be simple, peaceful, and entirely your own. During your session, you may choose to recline comfortably, close your eyes, and listen to the gentle hum of thousands of honey bees working within the hives below. Many guests enjoy using the time for quiet reflection, meditation, prayer, mindfulness, or simply a chance to unplug from the demands of daily life.
Others may prefer to read a book, journal, practice deep breathing, or observe the natural surroundings through the windows. The soft vibrations of the colony, combined with the warm scents create a unique atmosphere that encourages relaxation and stillness.
There is no agenda, no treatment, and nothing you need to do. Whether you spend your session resting quietly, reflecting on the day, or simply enjoying the sights, sounds, and aromas of the hive, the Apiary Wellness Room offers a rare opportunity to slow down and reconnect with nature at its own pace.
